Three sonatas by three of the Classical period’s most extraordinary composers are presented in this recital for violin and piano, performed by the brilliant Semra Lee and Tonya Lemoh. Discover the intriguing story behind one of Beethoven’s greatest chamber works, the Sonata No. 9, which was originally dedicated to the violin virtuoso George Bridgetower, a musician of African heritage. The program also features works by Joseph de Bologne, Chevalier de St Georges, who premiered Haydn’s Paris Symphonies. This renowned violinist-composer-conductor of African descent was one of the most admired musicians in Europe, as was his contemporary, Mozart.
