Black Mary
Directed by Ruby Lorraine Williams
Performed by Aboriginal Performance Students
Based on a true story, Black Mary follows the adventures of Aboriginal bushranger Mary Ann and her partner, Captain Thunderbolt, who roamed northwestern New South Wales in the mid-19th century. Dressed like a man, Mary Ann survives in the outback, living a life on the run from the troopers. She dreams of returning with Thunderbolt to live with her people but after witnessing their massacre, she plots her revenge. Julie Janson’s plays have been nominated for an AWGIE Award, and shortlisted for the Patrick White Award and the Griffin Award. Join us in celebrating the talents of WAAPA’s 2026 Aboriginal Performance cohort as they shine in their graduating production.
